Message from GEMC Chairman

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted that the next IOSCO Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) Meeting and Annual Conference 2017 will take place in Colombo hosted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Sri Lanka. This annual event provides an important platform for emerging market members to discuss key regulatory priorities, risks and challenges facing us.

This year’s GEMC Meeting and Annual Conference is also significant as it will be the first time that the event will be held back to back with a Regional Committee meeting – in this instance the Asia Pacific Regional Committee meeting. I am hopeful that this will allow for greater engagement and collaboration among different members cutting across both emerging and developed markets.

The GEMC Conference on Enhancing Sustainable and Innovative Market Based Financing will discuss the development of sustainable market-based financing, ways to enhance liquidity in emerging markets, as well as the impact of innovation and technology on regulation. Further, the GEMC Workshop on cyber resilience assisted by external experts, is expected to provide valuable guidance to strengthen our efforts on cyber security particularly in light of new innovation and growing technological sophistication across markets.

I would like to express my appreciation to SEC Sri Lanka for the excellent efforts underway in ensuring the success of this year’s event.

I look forward to seeing all of you in Sri Lanka.

Ranjit Ajit Singh

GEMC Chair and Chairman, Securities Commission Malaysia
